The first of a three part series on Montessori Life, this course introduces simple Montessori concepts and how to incorporate Montessori into daily life. It will cover relationships within the home, mindsets and attitudes, Montessori education and how to manage celebrations.

This course will look again at what it means to work with young children in a way that values community and celebrates diversity. Trapping baddies, rescuing princesses, flying and fighting off monsters - children are drawn to this type of play; enthusiastically role-playing characters, perhaps using a stick or object to represent a weapon. But as adults we can feel conflicted and unsure about this type of play; Is it violent? Why do children play like this? Should I discourage it? Is it against Montessori philosophy? In this short course we delve into these questions examining from a perspective of childhood, development, culture, and pedagogy. We aim to reflect, build deeper understanding, and gain ideas around how to approach this play with children.

This course is designed for early years practitioners and educators to learn how to create spaces that value, honour and celebrate diverse expressions of gender and sexuality in early years, but most importantly to know how we can support children to navigate through their world as happy, confident and peaceful beings. We will provide practical suggestions, as well as personal stories and reflections of the importance of discussing gender and sexuality in early childhood and creating an inclusive environment where everyone can belong.

The last in our three-part series on Montessori Life, Peaceful Home looks at what makes a family, the spiritual preparation of the adult, and the role of the adult as a model. The course also explores a Montessori view on discipline in the home and coaching.
